E-Waste Recycling for Telecom Companies

Telecom disposal is a logistics problem before it is a recycling one — the equipment sits across exchanges, tower sites and warehouses rather than in one building. We survey the estate, schedule site by site, and clear network hardware and batteries under a single authorized programme.

  • Authorization shown before award
  • Per-serial destruction certificate

Multi-Site Network Equipment Disposal

A telecom clearance is rarely one address. Exchanges, base station sites, warehouses and regional offices each hold retired equipment, often with different access rules and different people holding the key. We survey the estate first, agree a site sequence, and run the programme against that schedule with one point of contact and one consolidated report.

  • Exchange and switching room decommissioning
  • Base station and tower-site equipment removal
  • Warehouse clearance of obsolete stock
  • Consolidated reporting across every site

Tower-Site and Exchange Battery Banks

Backup battery banks are the heaviest and most hazardous part of a telecom estate. Lead-acid units are regulated hazardous waste, and a damaged lithium pack is a genuine fire risk in transit. We disconnect where required, pack under hazardous-waste protocol, move under manifest, and certify the consignment — rather than loading cells loose alongside other scrap.

Configuration Data on Network Hardware

Routers, switches and controllers retain configuration, routing tables and often credentials in flash memory. That is a security exposure most disposal programmes miss entirely because the device is not thought of as a storage device. We wipe or destroy the flash on every unit and record it in the same per-serial log as conventional drives.

Copper, Cable and Recoverable Value

Telecom clearances typically carry more recoverable value than the operator expects, because copper cable, transformers and rack metal add up quickly across an estate. We weigh at each site and settle against an agreed rate, so the value is visible per location rather than absorbed into one opaque total.

Telecom Companies — what buyers ask us

How do telecom operators dispose of old network equipment?

Through an authorized handler, treating the equipment as data-bearing. Routers, switches and controllers hold configuration and often credentials in flash memory, so they need wiping or destruction recorded like any drive. Batteries from the same sites are hazardous waste and must move under manifest with their own certification.

How are tower-site and exchange batteries disposed of safely?

Disconnected by competent staff, packed under hazardous-waste protocol, transported under manifest and processed by a licensed handler with a certificate issued for the consignment. Lead-acid units leach if landfilled and damaged lithium packs can ignite in transit, which is why loading them loose with general scrap is both unlawful and genuinely dangerous.

Does retired network hardware pose a data security risk?

Yes, and it is commonly overlooked. Configuration files, routing tables, VPN settings and stored credentials persist in flash memory after a device is decommissioned, and a factory reset does not always clear them. Any disposal programme that only considers hard drives leaves this exposure open.

Is Sree E-Waste a government authorized e-waste recycler?

Yes. Sree E-Waste is a government licensed e-waste handler operating under the trademark 'Redit Eco Recycling', with collection centres in Perungudi and Velachery, Chennai. That authorization is what makes our recycling certificate valid as audit evidence — ask for our details at the vendor evaluation stage and we will provide them.

What documents does Sree E-Waste provide to telecom operators?

A disposition report listing every asset by tag and its outcome, a certificate of data destruction naming each drive serial and the method used, and a recycling certificate for the consignment issued under our authorization. Together those are what an auditor asks for under the E-Waste Management Rules.

How does Sree E-Waste secure data during a telecom site clearance?

Drives are logged by serial number before anything moves, destroyed by the method you specify — shredding, degaussing or certified multi-pass erasure — and reconciled against that list in the final report. Where your policy requires that media never leaves the premises intact, we destroy on site instead of in transit.

Can Sree E-Waste work to our schedule and site rules?

Yes. We survey first, then work to your window — out of hours, floor by floor, or in staged visits where a site cannot be cleared in one. Our own uniformed staff and vehicles attend, we carry material out on protected routes, and we leave the area swept rather than leaving debris behind.

Does Sree E-Waste handle recurring collections for telecom operators?

Yes — a scheduled programme is usually cheaper and cleaner than ad-hoc disposal, because retired equipment never accumulates in corridors and store rooms. We agree a frequency, hold the same documentation standard each time, and consolidate the reporting so your annual compliance file assembles itself.
